Parent Visa Consultants in Chandigarh

Time to make Parents Feel Loved, by Sharing the Same Shelter! If you are an Australian citizen or permanent resident, Auscan can help you bring your parents to Australia and settle together as a family – with decades of experience in Australian immigration.

Quick answer: Parents can migrate to Australia when their child is a settled Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen. Most parents must pass the balance of family test (at least half of their children live permanently in Australia). The main permanent options are the Contributory Parent visa (143) – faster but costlier – and the Parent visa (103) – cheaper with a very long queue. Parents of age pension age already in Australia can apply onshore (804 or 864). Auscan Consultants in Chandigarh helps you choose the right subclass and lodge a strong application.

Parent visa eligibility and documents

The Australia Parent Migration Visa allows Australian PR holders and citizens to bring their parents to Australia. These are the main requirements for a permanent parent visa:

  • Eligible sponsor: a child who is a settled Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen – generally living lawfully in Australia for at least 2 years.
  • Balance of family test: at least half of the parent’s children live permanently in Australia, or more children live in Australia than in any other single country.
  • Health and character: parents must meet health (medical examination and chest x-ray) and character requirements, and all visa conditions.
  • Passport and travel history for all applicants.
  • Financial capacity: the sponsor (or another assurer) must provide an Assurance of Support.
  • No “No Further Stay” condition on the current visa for parents applying from inside Australia.
  • Age for onshore aged parent visas: for the 804, 864 and 884 visas, the main applicant must be old enough to receive the Australian age pension (currently 67).

If the child is under 18

If the parent’s child is under 18, the parent can be sponsored by:

  • The child’s spouse or partner, if they are 18 or older and a settled Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
  • A relative or guardian of the child who is a settled Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
  • A relative or guardian of the child’s spouse, if the spouse is under 18 but is a settled Australian citizen or PR.

Contributory parent visa and Assurance of Support

Contributory parent visa

Subclasses 143, 173, 864 and 884. For the aged versions, the main applicant must be of age pension age; a younger partner can be included as a secondary applicant. Higher visa charge, much faster decision.

Non-contributory parent visa

Subclasses 103 and 804. Lower visa charge but a very long processing queue, often many years.

Assurance of Support (AoS)

A legal commitment by an Australian resident to financially support the parent. 10 years for contributory parent visas (143/864) and 4 years for non-contributory parent visas (103/804).

All parent visa applicants go through a health examination, which may include a chest x-ray and other tests. Want your parents here sooner on a temporary basis? Parent visa FAQs

How can I bring my parents to Australia permanently?

If you are a settled Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen, you can sponsor your parents for a permanent Parent visa. The main options are the Contributory Parent visa (subclass 143), the non-contributory Parent visa (subclass 103), and – if your parents are already in Australia and of age pension age – the Aged Parent (804) or Contributory Aged Parent (864) visas.

What is the balance of family test for a parent visa?

To pass the balance of family test, at least half of the parent’s children must live permanently in Australia, or more of their children must live permanently in Australia than in any other single country. Step-children may also count.

What is the difference between contributory and non-contributory parent visas?

A contributory parent visa (143, 173, 864, 884) has a much higher visa charge but is processed far faster. A non-contributory parent visa (103, 804) costs less but has a very long waiting queue. Both lead to permanent residency.

What is an Assurance of Support (AoS)?

An Assurance of Support is a legal commitment by an Australian resident (usually the sponsoring child) to financially support the parent so they do not rely on government benefits. It lasts 10 years for contributory parent visas (143/864) and 4 years for non-contributory parent visas (103/804), and usually includes a bond.

How old must parents be for an aged parent visa?

For the onshore Aged Parent (804) and Contributory Aged Parent (864/884) visas, the main applicant must be old enough to receive the Australian age pension – currently 67 years.

Can my parents visit Australia for longer without applying for PR?

Yes. The Sponsored Parent (Temporary) visa subclass 870 lets parents stay in Australia for up to 3 or 5 years per visa, and up to 10 years in total. It does not require the balance of family test, but it does not lead to permanent residency. For shorter trips, see our visitor visa services.
